Step jacks (low-impact jacks)

Stepping out to the side with an overhead arm sweep — all the rhythm of jumping jacks without the jump.

How to do it

  1. Stand with feet together and arms by your sides.
  2. Step one foot out to the side as you sweep both arms overhead.
  3. Bring the foot back and lower your arms.
  4. Repeat to the other side and keep alternating.

Form tips

  • Push off the stepping foot to make it lively.
  • Bend your knees a little as you step out.

Common mistakes

  • Shrugging as the arms go up.

Raise your arms only to shoulder height.

Speed up, or add a small squat as you step out.
